Car Rentals
The Calgary International Airport offers several well known options for rental cars: Hertz, National, Avis, Thrifty, Enterprise, and Budget. Each of these companies have offices conveniently located right in the arrival terminal. Heather Mountain Lodge is right on the TransCanada highway, making the trip from Calgary straightforward.
Shuttle
Guests joining us for our 7 nights. Heli Heaven have the option of enjoying a coach transfer from Calgary Airport to Heather Mountain Lodge. Our regular shuttle is provided by SunDog Tours and departs the Calgary International Airport Saturdays between 1:30 and 3 pm. Please check in with the SunDog Tours Desk located right at the International Arrival gate, between 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Please ensure that you flight arrives no later than 1:30 to allow for customs and collecting baggage. We suggest that international travelers arrive the night before to help fend off the jet lag. When booking your return flight, keep in mind that the shuttle arrives at the Calgary Airport the following Saturday by 12:30; please do not book any flights prior to 1:30pm MST.
Car and Driver Hire
We would be happy to assist guests looking to hire a car and driver to bring them to Heather Mountain Lodge. The cost of this service ranges depending on distance and the number of travelers. You may call our office for information or call SunDog Tours directly at 1-403-762-4343.
Air Transportation
Charter flights to Golden are available both via airplane, or helicopter. We can assist guests with the arrangement of private flights into Golden, or heli-transfer from Calgary. The rate for a heli-transfer form the Calgary airport is approximately $5500.00 and a charter plane transfer is about $ Again, please contact our office for availability and information regarding this efficient way to get to GCH.
Packing Suggestions
First and foremost, we strongly recommend that you bring your well-worn ski boots as carry on during your flight. We can figure out just about everything else should there be any MIA luggage. Winter temperatures can flux between –7° and –15° C (20° – 5° F), sometimes dipping as low as –30° (-18° F). See our forum for packing lists.
Equipment
Great Canadian Heli-Skiing provides guests with just about everything they need. Our packages include all necessary safety gear, as well as poles and Atomic Heli-Daddy skis for our skiers and Burton either Malolo or Fish boards for our boarders.
Heather Mountain Lodge
Guests of Great Canadian Heli-Skiing stay at our own Heather Mountain Lodge. Located just a short way off the TransCanada Highway #1, HML was built in 1996 using traditional timberframe techniques and with Rocky Mountain styling. Each guest room is double occupancy and is outfitted with two queen beds, private bath, and wireless internet. Upgrades would include a single room at a rate of $100 per night, or flatscreen satellite television at the rate of $15 per night. The Wooly Toque lounge houses a bar as well as pool table, guest computer, our small library and a satellite television. Additional costs you may incur would be adding massages to your package at $75 per appointment, purchasing gear from our retail shop, or alcohol.
Dietary Considerations
At Great Canadian Heli-Skiing, we feel that our strength is in providing you a stage to live your dream, without having to worry about a thing. Should you have any requirements with respect to your food, be it preferences or otherwise, please let us know. Given enough notice, we can certainly strive to provide you with meals that meet your needs.
Customs
For our international guests, we strongly suggest that they check with the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration to ensure that travel documentation is up–to-date and that you’ll have no surprises upon entry to Canada. All travelers must carry valid passport ID to enter the country. Customs have also been reviewing minor misdemeanors, so it has been suggested that anyone traveling internationally go through the steps to have their record cleared.
