Alberta, the Gateway to BC Heliskiing

banff heli-boarding

Alberta is the gateway to heliskiing the mountains of interior British Columbia. Alberta has become a heliskiing hotspot for growth within the heliskiing domestic market. The number of guests coming from Alberta for BC heliskiing has increased dramatically within the past few years. Calgary Alberta’s international airport is within an hours drive of the BC border and makes an ideal starting point for international guests who come to Canada looking to experience the best of BC heliskiing.

Alberta Heliskiing Day Trips

Southern Alberta has 2 world class ski resorts; Sunshine Ski Resort near Banff Alberta and Lake Louse Ski Resort in Lake Louise Alberta. As most of the Rocky Mountains within Alberta fall into the Canada’s National Park system, there is no actual heliskiing within Alberta. However, many heliskiing guests prefer to spend a day or so at either of these two Alberta resorts to do some warm up skiing prior to heliskiing or may combine 3 days at the Alberta resorts with 4 days of BC heliskiing.

With Banff Alberta or Lake Louise Alberta as a base, heliskiing guests are bussed to British Columbia, only an hour and a half away to enjoy BC heliskiing for the day. BC heliskiing guests then return to Alberta at the end of the day.

Great Canadian Heliskiing does not offer single day BC heliskiing from Alberta, but would be happy to suggest a day heliskiing operator within Alberta or BC if that is all you are able to do.
